Register now for Tax Chat! Taxpayer Rights, Human Rights, and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

The Center for Taxpayer Rights announces registration is now open for the Tax Chat! with Professors Riel Franzsen and Annet Oguttu  and Asha Ramgobin.   This Tax Chat! will be held on Tuesday, 06 October, 2020 at noon Eastern Daylight Time/18h00 South African Standard Time (17:00 BST/18:00 CEST).  The theme of the Tax Chat! is Taxpayer Rights, Human Rights, and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

Tax Chat! is a series of online conversations with persons from different disciplines who work in the field of taxpayer rights.  With host Nina Olson, Executive Director of the Center for Taxpayer Rights, Riel, Annet, and Asha will discuss taxpayer rights in the context of human rights.  Additional topics include:

  • The right of governments to obtain necessary revenue to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) for its citizenry, and the right of citizens to have their needs met.  
  • Taxpayer rights in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, including implications for taxpayer trust, national and local tax relief, and conditions for obtaining relief.
  • Approaches to addressing an international tax structure that undermines developing countries’ efforts to achieve SDGs, including illicit financial flows and abuses of COVID-19 relief measures.
