The Center for Taxpayer Rights advocates for systemic improvements in U.S. tax administration by providing formal comments on regulations and procedures, submitting requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act, and filing amicus briefs in federal courts. The Center’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic Support Center hosts a recurring litigation strategy call for U.S. LITCs and other legal advocates, to coordination strategy on cases involving issues that have significant impact on low income taxpayers.
Internationally, the Center hosts workshops for taxpayer ombuds/advocates and Low Income Taxpayer Clinics at the International Conference on Taxpayer Rights, to promote and support the formation of these offices in other countries. It has also submitted evidence and comments to tax administrations about taxpayer charters and bills of rights.
