Registration Now Open for In-Person & Live-streamed Conference!

The 8th International Conference on Taxpayer Rights will be held both in-person and live-streamed online, hosted by the Centro de Estudios Tributarios, Facultad de Economia y Negocios, Universidad de Chile.  Events include two days of panel discussions on 25 and 26 May 2023, preceded by a roundtable with judges and a workshop for tax ombuds/advocates/tax clinics on 24 May.

Conference Sessions Include:

On May 25 and 26, conference sessions will examine judicial review of tax administration and tax law from the perspective of taxpayer rights; topics include:

  • A rights-based foundation for access to judicial review;
  • Tax issues and courts of different remit;
  • Judicial review of tax matters in non-tax norms and fora;
  • Observatory for the Protection of Taxpayer Rights and current developments;
  • Barriers to access to or deprivation of judicial review;
  • Judicial review of cross-border tax disputes; and
  • Alternative dispute resolution and judicial review.

 

On 24 May 2023, we will hold two free sessions:

  • Judges’ Roundtable: Self-Represented Taxpayers – The Judicial Response; and
  • Taxpayer Advocate/Ombuds/Tax Clinic Workshop: Dispute Resolution.

Conference Venue:

We are pleased to announce that the 8th ICTR will return to the in-person format.  The conference will be held in the Aula Magna, Diagonal Paraguay 257, University of Chile, Andrés Bello Campus, Santiago Chile.

For those who are unable to travel, we are offering a live-streamed registration for the conference.  For online attendees, links to the online sessions will be emailed several days before each session.

We will also send a recording of the conference session to registrants who miss the session due to time zone variations.

Conference Hotel:

The conference hotel is the Hotel Cumbres Lastarria in Santiago, Chile.  We have reserved a block of rooms at a special rate.  Rooms are also available at The Singular in Santiago, Chile at a special rate.  Once you have registered, the hotel contact information and the code for the special rate will be sent to you in a separate email.

 

Registration Fees:

Registration for the two-day in-person conference is $325 USD.   The registration fee includes admission to the conference, an opening reception, a dinner, two lunches, and refreshments.

Registration for the two-day live-streamed conference is $100 USD for attendees from OECD countries, and $75 USD for attendees from non-OECD countries.

Attendees must register for the free Judges Roundtable and Ombuds/Clinic workshop separately.

A reduced rate is available to current PhD, LLM, or JD students.  To receive the discount code, please email conference@taxpayer-rights.org with your request, including your current course of study and the name of the institution at which you are studying.
